Focused on community in the Team Parish of Louth

Volunteering

Over 400 volunteers contribute regularly to the work of the Team Parish of Louth. About half of them have no other contact with the church. Many of the volunteering roles require CRB checks.  For the Trinity-based projects, we provide initial training, agree the level of commitment individuals are prepared to make, provide continuing support, and ask volunteers to contribute to the evaluation of the services we set out to provide.

Trinity-based volunteering opportunities

Whether or not you are a church-goer, you may be interested to contribute to our community projects. We aim to attract sufficient volunteers to develop rotas, so that individuals can devote as much or as little time as they feel comfortable with. Some of the Trinity-based projects are:

  • Serving fish and chips ordered from a local supplier to elderly folk at Trinity on Friday lunchtimes and chatting between mouth-fulls.
  • Much the same for the monthly Tasty Tuesday lunch event.
  • Cooking and serving Sunday lunch to elderly diners once a month - for example, we currently have teams that perform this role twice a year each, but people drop out for a variety of reasons so we are always looking for potential replacements.
  • Help people to save and to borrow affordably through the Credit Union on Wednesday mornings.
  • Provide practical help and support for people applying for voluntary and paid employment at the Wednesday morning Work Club.
  • Befriend vulnerable members of the community and help to reduce their isolation with our be a friend scheme.
  • Community Larder: support families most in need by delivering vital food packages in times of crisis.
  • Administrative support for Trinity projects.

If you think you might be interested in volunteering for any of these activities, please contact Peta Hill on 01507 610752 or pcwpeta@btconnect.com

We are always seeking to extend our activites to address areas of need, develop practical projects and improve our delivery.  We welcome suggestions for such projects and for fund-raising ideas which will help to sustain our work.

Other volunteering opportunities in the Team Parish of Louth

St James's is probably the most significant attraction in Louth.  People who never enter the church cannot miss the highest spire of a parish church in the country.  Thousands of people a year do visit the church and they are served by teams of volunteers who serve in the coffee shop, (wo)man the tills at the church shop, and guide visitors around the historical and artistic features of the church. St James is one of the few churches in the diocese that retains a high-quality church choir with a director of music. Friends of St James's performs a fund-raising role to help sustain the physical structure of the Grade I listed building. See more at www.stjameschurchlouth.com

All the churches in the Team Parish of Louth need volunteers to hold the statutory offices, pay the bills, read bible passages during services, lead the prayers, ring the bells, clean and polish the silverware, arrange the flowers, play the organ, write and distribute notices, cut the churchyard grass, run Sunday schools or Mothers' Unions, open up and lock up...

The other churches in the Team parish are St Michael's (a beacon of the Anglo-catholic tradition in Lincolnshire) www.stmichaels-louth.org.uk, All Saints' at South Elkington, St Martin's at Welton, and St Andrews' at Stewton.
